Boulder will start processing licenses for medical marijuana businesses Monday. A license will cost $5,000.
City officials say new businesses will need a license before they can open. Existing businesses have until Aug. 31 to apply for a license or until Oct. 31 if they're in compliance with city ordinances. Among the regulations approved by the Boulder City Council in May are a size limit for dispensaries of 3,000 square feet and the requirement that they be at least 500 feet away from schools and licensed day-care centers. Colorado voters in 2000 approved the use of marijuana for medical purposes.
Several cities and counties have approved bans or limits on the operations. A new state law also imposes regulations on the industry.
