BALTIMORE (AP) - A woman who lost her leg in the Boston Marathon bombings has returned to a race course, serving as the honorary starter for the Baltimore Marathon.
Erika Brannock told the runners Saturday morning, "You can do this, and you will do this."
The 29-year-old Brannock was waiting near the finish line for her mother to complete the race in Boston in April. Doctors had to amputate her left leg above the knee.
On Saturday, the preschool teacher from Towson, Md., sat in a wheelchair with her mother nearby, using an air horn to start the race.
She says: "That was one of the coolest things I've done so far."
Brannock spent 50 days in a Boston hospital. Last week, she used a prosthesis for the first time, and she has returned to work part-time.
