Booster seat bill heads to governor's desk

DENVER (AP) - A bill requiring that children in vehicles stay in booster seats until they're 8 is on its way to the governor.
The Senate readopted the bill in a 20-15 vote Tuesday. The final version allows police to pull over any cars suspected of having children who aren't properly restrained.
Democratic Sen. Morgan Carroll of Aurora argued that could lead to unwarranted police stops. Some Republicans said parents should decide if children need a booster seat.
GOP Sen. Shawn Mitchell accused supporters of trying to "bubble wrap" citizens.
Currently, children up to age 4 are required to ride in car seats and those between 4 and 6 are supposed to be in booster seats.
Violators could be fined $81. Officers could issue only warnings the first year.
