A couple renovating their home in the 300 block of W. Cheyenne Rd. made an odd discovery as they were pulling up flooring. The couple found bones under the flooring, so not knowing the origin of the bones they contacted police and let them handle the gruesome find.

Colorado Springs Police, Sgt. Michael Spitzmiller tells KOAA News 5 that they are handling this situation carefully to preserve any evidence there may be. The bones will be turned over to the El Paso County Coroner's office so a forensic anthropologist can determine if they are animal or human.

Given the age and location of the home, police feel that the bones may actually be from an animal, but they must follow protocol and be prepared in the case they could be human.

Police are not treating this as a crime scene and no arrests are pending.
