Bold in the cold: Delivery by bike

When people don't want to face the cold they often turn to delivery for lunch.
It means a call out into the cold for crews who deliver.

The promise is extra fast delivery if you order a sandwich from Jimmy John's. In downtown Colorado Springs going by bike is usually the quickest way to deliver. No matter how cold their deliver crew heads out on bikes. "It's a little more painful, a little more exciting," said bike delivery man, Alex Pattullo.

The bike riders say it gets a little tricky on icy roads. "You have got to cover all your skin when it gets really cold and especially windy. It's all about layers," said bike delivery man, John Pierce. Because they are moving fast on bikes the cold can feel even colder.

Riders say working on the extra cold days can bring a pay-off. Some customers recognize how cold it is and show their appreciation with generous tips.
