HOT SULPHUR SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Authorities have identified two people found dead in a van near the Colorado River last weekend as a Denver-area father and son.
Grand County sheriff's officials said Tuesday it appears 62-year-old William Ahrold and his 9-year-old son, Jackson, died in what may have been a murder-suicide. Both had gunshot wounds.
However the investigation has been complicated because it appears someone broke into the van and took Ahrold's gun and other items before deputies found the van Saturday.
Denver police had reported Ahrold and his son missing Dec. 13. They were last seen Dec. 9.
The Denver Post reports public records show Ahrold operated a construction company in Denver until 2003. Court records show he was divorced in 2008.
A phone message left at his home Tuesday wasn't immediately returned.
