Fort Carson will host an Armed Services Blood Drive next week. The blood will be used for troops injured in battle. Everyone is welcome to donate providing they are healthy--over the age of 17, weigh at least 110 pounds and not have donated blood in the last 56 days.

Walk-ins will be accepted. You may also schedule an online appointment. The scheduling is done by Fort Bliss.

The Blood Drive will be held July 13, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. and July 14, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., at the post's Special Events Center.

According to Brandy Gill, Media Relations Chief for Fort Carson, "The Armed Services Blood Program from Fort Bliss, Texas, is able to quickly move blood donated locally to wherever it is needed without having to buy it from commercial sources. The need for blood remains critical in part because of the continued support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. Many Soldiers are deferred from donating blood because of their service overseas, so the ASBP actively seeks civilians who are able to donate."

Blood donors should enter Fort Carson through Gate 1 for vehicle inspection. Gate 1 is located at Highway 115 at Nelson Boulevard. Drivers need proof of current insurance, proof of valid vehicle registration and a driver's license. Adult passengers must present current government issued photo identification, such as a driver's license.
