Blasting caps were discovered in Palmer Park, Sunday afternoon. Colorado Springs police say they received a report of blasting caps on a hiking trail in the park.
Once the blasting caps were reported, bomb technicians did go into confirm the devices. Examination by bomb technicians revealed that the items were in fact commercial grade explosive blasting caps. The blasting caps appear to have been exposed to the elements for some time.
Currently, it is unknown how these explosives found their way into the park or how long they were there. The investigation is continuing.
Police want to remind anyone who finds suspected explosives or explosive material, to not move or disturb them in any way and contact the police department immediately.
