Instead of asking for lots of presents for her birthday, 12 year old Fountain girl plans to give. Bailey Cole recently told her mom that she wanted to donate blood for her birthday.

But when they called the hospital to set it up, Bailey learned that she had to be 17 in order to be a donor. So, instead of throwing a birthday party, they've organized a blood drive.

"I was watching this TV show about a little girl who, she had to get blood transfusions a lot and she said the hospitals, they weren't getting enough blood in," Bailey said. "I really didn't want people to die just because somebody didn't want to get pricked by a needle."

After talking with the hospital, Bailey and Tonya got together with the folks at the local American Legion and the blood drive was on. The two quickly recruited their relatives and their friends as donors.

"Some of my friends have said that they're thinking about maybe they want to do that too which I think that's really cool," Bailey said.

The blood drive runs until 7:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post #38, 6685 Southmoor Drive in Fountain.
