DENVER (AP) - Former President Bill Clinton is urging Colorado organizations fighting poverty in developing countries to work together.

During a surprise visit at a Denver luncheon Tuesday, Clinton spoke about his foundation's work in Africa, Latin America and Haiti to help farmers living in poverty sell their products.

He got a standing ovation at the luncheon, which celebrated the 30th anniversary of International Development Enterprises, known as iDE. The group addresses poverty by educating farmers and giving access to tools to become self-sustainable.

The group is launching a collaborative with Colorado organizations that have similar goals around the world, and it's building a center in Denver.

More than 700 people attended the luncheon, and the money raised will go to iDE and construction of the new center, which opens next summer.
