Next wee, 32 cross-country cyclists will build a home in Colorado Springs with Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity. The cyclists are part of an organization called Bike and Build.
Bike and Build organizes cross-country bicycle trips that benefit affordable housing groups. Specifically, they fund projects planned by young adults ages 18-24. Over the past seven years, Bike and Build has donated $2,305,345 to affordable housing groups throughout the country and worked built for more than 63,500 hours.
Each cyclist is required to raise $4,000 to participate in one of eight routes throughout the United States. The group coming through Colorado Springs left Charleston, South Carolina on May 24 and will arrive in Santa Cruz, California on August 12. Click here to check their progress.
While here, they are participating in a Blitz Build where they will nearly complete a Habitat house in just one week. The group is working from July 5 - July 10, 8:30 a.m. - noon and 1 - 4:30 p.m. each day.
Directions: Travel east on Woodmen Road; turn north on Tutt after Powers; turn right on Sorpresa Lane and continue two blocks until you reach the development.
