Big crowd gathers for slopper smackdown

The ultimate slopper showdown began around 4:30 Wednesday afternoon at the Union Depot in downtown Pueblo. All this week a crew from the Travel Channel has been shooting video for a special to air on May 25 on Food Wars.
The slopper is believed to be a Pueblo invention, first served decades ago at Coor's Tavern at 4th and Elizabeth. It's an open faced burger covered with chile. For Food Wars Coor's is pitted against the Sunset Inn and tonight the winner will be crowned based on the votes of five blind-folded judges. One of those is News First's Mike Daniels. But Mike and the other judges, and the hundreds there to watch, have been sworn to secrecy. We'll fine out when the rest of the world does.
