Doctors say Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter will stay in the hospital for three or four days recovering from broken ribs and a separated shoulder he suffered in a bicycle wreck.

Ritter tumbled from his bike Tuesday when he ran into another cyclist during an early morning exercise ride.

Ritter's surgeon, Dr. Carlton Barnett, said Wednesday the governor suffered six broken ribs and a separated shoulder. The shoulder injury wasn't previously disclosed.

Ritter is in fair condition at Denver Health Medical Center.

Barnett says he wants Ritter to stay in the hospital to make sure he takes his pain medication and to prevent possible complications, including pneumonia.
