Bible exhibit set to open in the Springs

A traveling living history exhibit is opening in Colorado Springs this week. "passages" is an interactive journey that chronicles the history of the Bible.

The exhibit of 450 select pieces of "The Green Collection," is part of the world's largest private collection of rare Biblical antiquities owned by the Green family, who also owns the Hobby Lobby chain of craft stores.

Steve Green, president of Hobby Lobby, purchased his first Biblical artifact in 2009 and has since amassed a collection of over 40,000 pieces.

He says his goal is to share these amazing items from history with the world.

"The PASSAGES exhibit focuses predominantly on it's history. We do have some items and some new rooms that deal with it's impact, but a lot of it is dealing with it's history. It's just 'here's how we have it." Green tells us.

The exhibit will open to the public on Thursday, and will run through February 1st of 2014.

Colorado Springs is the fourth stop for the tour. It opened in Oklahoma City in May of 2011 and has also been seen in Atlanta, Georgia and Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Green family hopes to open a national Bible museum in Washington D.C. by 2017.
