COLORADO SPRINGS - U.S. Senator Michael Bennet will be in Colorado Springs Wednesday stumping for legislation for stronger measures to fight the growing trend of pharmaceutical theft. The senator will visit Ivywild Pharmacy on South Nevada Avenue, one of several local pharmacies to be burglarized recently.

The SAFE DOSES Act, of which Bennet is one of 27 co-sponsors, makes prescription drug theft a federal crime punishable by up to 20 years in prison. It also places the theft of medical devices under the scope of the Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act which authorizes the use of wire taps and email intercepts.
