It was a lively debate Friday night in Colorado Springs between Ken Buck and Michael Bennet, the two candidates for U.S. Senate.

The two discussed a number of topics everything from a timeline in Afghanistan, to stem cell research, to gays in the military. The primary focus however was the economy and whether to extend tax breaks or pay down the deficit.

In regards to the economy Ken Buck said, "By extending tax cuts you pay down the deficit, you grow the economy by giving people more money and giving people the certainty they'll know how to spend, they'll have more money down the road to spend."

Michael Bennet said, "And I support extending the middle class tax cuts and open to discussions but we need to acknowledge to ourselves is that the last time we did what Ken Buck is describing it led us to the worst recession since the great depression"

We are working on getting the entire debate streamed right here on NewsFirst5.com, it should be available soon. We will also rerun it all next week, Monday-Friday on News First Now at 7:00 p.m. That's cable channel 9 in the Springs, 247 in Pueblo, channel 7 in Canon City and over the air 5-2.

News First Five and The Gazette hosted the debate at Centennial Hall.
