Gov. Bill Ritter has signed a bill expanding the state's energy portfolio to include biomass.

The law signed Wednesday encourages the use of woody biomass, which comes from the byproduct of timber killed by the bark beetle.

Rep. Christine Scanlan, a Democrat from Silverthorne, says the new law will encourage people to clear out dead trees and create new jobs.
