An amazing photo is circulating the internet showing a cable and brace that snapped on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge during the Tuesday evening commute, raining debris down onto traffic.

Luckily, no one was injured. Battered and bruised is the commute--280,000 vehicles a day cross the bridge. Cal-Trans has closed the bridge indefinitely until it can guarantee the span is safe.

BART has added cars and extra trains, shooting commuters beneath the San Francisco Bay through the trans-bay tunnel. Ferries and other bridges are also bearing the extra load.
