The Colorado Springs Diocese and Colorado College say they support a zoning proposal to push medical marijuana businesses away from religious buildings and schools.

The Colorado Springs planning commission is considering new zoning regulations to govern where medical marijuana businesses can be located.

The diocese and the college are among those who have expressed support of a proposal to restrict medical marijuana businesses from operating within 1,000 feet from churches, mosques, synagogues and colleges.

Medical marijuana businesses oppose the proposed zoning regulations and say they will be forced to close if the rules are approved.
