Bag with "strong acidic" smell triggers evacuation

Update: Colorado Springs Police are investigating a burglary of the business.  CSPD believes that someone was in the ventilation system of the business for "a while," but not living there.  CSFD has identified the substance in the bag, but citing an ongoing investigation, won't say what it is.  The building was ventilated for most of the day and will reopen Thursday night, in time for a scheduled recital.

COLORADO SPRINGS - A leaking bag found on the floor of a music store in northeast Colorado Springs has caused the store to be evacuated.  According to the owner of Grainer Music, when employees arrived at the store Thursday morning, ceiling tiles were askew and a leaking bag was found on the floor.  Employees noticed a "strong acidic" smell from the bag and called the fire department.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department sent a hazmat unit to the store, located in the 4400 block of Barnes Road.  CSFD evacuated the store and is testing the contents of the bag.

The owner of the store believes that someone may have been living in the space above the ceiling tiles, and the bag came from them.

News 5 has a crew at the scene and will update this story as more information becomes available.
