Backers of a Strong Mayor form of government in Colorado Springs submitted signatures Tuesday to get the issue on the November ballot.

The group needs 25,091 valid signatures to make the ballot. The petitions submitted have 36,305.

If voters approve the Strong Mayor proposal the position of City Manager will be eliminated. Former Springs City Manager Penny Culbreth-Graft was hired at $210,000 plus benefits in 2008. She resigned earlier this year. The Strong Mayor would earn $96,000 a year. The current mayor earns $6,250 per year.
