Over a hundred students at Avondale Elementary in Pueblo County take part in a drill that could someday save their lives.

Because it's close to the Pueblo Chemical Depot, Avondale Elementary's gym has the ability to close off the ventilation system.

In case there's ever a chemical leak or spill, people from FEMA and other U.S. chemical agencies all over the country come to evaluate the school's drill.

It involves all of the children getting into the gym in a quick, mannerly way to have it cut off from outside air as fast as possible.

Evaluators were impressed with how seriously the children took the drill.

"Whether it's a fire drill, tornado drill, or whatever kind of drill, we do expect them to be on their best behavior and to take it seriously as if it was really happening," said Carmen Avalos, Avondale Elemenary Principal.

Within a few weeks those at the school will receive their official evaluation.
