Avalanche Warning issued for San Juan Mountains!

THE COLORADO AVALANCHE INFORMATION CENTER HAS ISSUED AN AVALANCHE WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL NOON WEDNESDAY FOR THE SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS!

HEAVY SNOWFALL AND STRONG SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST WINDS HAVE COMBINED TO BUILD DANGEROUS WIND SLABS. AVALANCHES IN THE STORM SNOW COULD EASILY STEP DOWN TO
DEEPER WEAK LAYERS. EXPECT NATURAL AND HUMAN-TRIGGERED SLIDES IN THE
WARNING AREAS TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND INTO WEDNESDAY. BACKCOUNTRY TRAVEL
IS NOT RECOMMENDED THROUGH AVALANCHE TERRAIN.

THE AVALANCHE WARNING IS VALID THROUGH 12 WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AT
WHICH TIME AN UPDATE WILL BE ISSUED.

THIS STATEMENT IS OF PARTICULAR INTEREST TO PERSONS USING THE
BACKCOUNTRY OUTSIDE DEVELOPED SKI AREA BOUNDARIES. WHEN NECESSARY
SKI AREAS USE AVALANCHE CONTROL METHODS WITHIN THEIR BOUNDARIES.
