DENVER (AP) - The Colorado Avalanche selected Swedish forward Gabriel Landeskog with the second overall pick in the NHL draft on Friday.
The 18-year-old Landeskog has played the last two seasons with the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League. He had 36 goals and 30 assists in 2010-11.
The 6-foot, 200-pound forward from Stockholm grew up idolizing Peter Forsberg, who won two Stanley Cups and a Hart Trophy with the Avalanche.
The Avalanche also hold the 11th overall pick in the draft.
