DENVER (AP) - The Colorado Avalanche's most telling moves so far in free agency may be the ones they didn't make at all.

The Avalanche elected to allow veterans Darcy Tucker, Brett Clark, Ruslan Salei, Stephane Yelle and Marek Svatos to become unrestricted free agents as the team sticks to its plan of relying on youth.

With rookies Matt Duchene and Ryan O'Reilly helping pave the way, the Avalanche surged back into the playoffs in 2009-10 after finishing last in the Western Conference the year before.

Colorado doesn't figure to be a big factor in the free agency period that began Thursday.

Instead, the team may concentrate on getting deals done for some of its upstarts, such as Chris Stewart, Brandon Yip, Kyle Quincey and Peter Mueller.
