Auto body shops from Woodland Park to Limon are overwhelmed this week with people bringing in cars damaged from the 4th of July hail storms. State Farm Insurance alone says it has received more than 600 auto claims in the two days since the storms. That number is certain to climb for them and other insurance providers in the coming days and weeks. According to Rick Lujan, owner of Black and White Auto Repair in Colorado Springs, damage from hail can cost up to $5,000 per vehicle. In many cases, the damage is significant enough that the vehicle is considered a total loss. Technicians use a process called Paintless Dent Repair to smooth the dings and dents, a process that can take hours or days, depending on the extent of hail damage. Car owners are advised that they should be prepared to part with their vehicles for up to a week because of the rush on auto body shops in the wake of the storm.
