Autism shows up in brain scans

Doctors may someday be able to use brain scans to diagnose autism.
To work properly -- the right and left hemispheres of the brain must work together. But researchers at the University of Utah found distinct differences in the way the two hemispheres communicated in people with autism.
Those abnormal areas are associated motor skills, attention and social functioning.
The research could someday lead to earlier diagnosis of the condition.
The study was led by researchers at the University of Utah and published in Cerebral Cortex online.
