LOVELAND, Colo. (AP) - Local authorities are using roving patrols to prevent looting as firefighters try to get the upper hand on a wildfire near Fort Collins.
The fire that has burned large swaths of land since it began more than a week ago was still out of control on Tuesday.
On Sunday, deputies arrested Michael Maher on charges including theft and impersonating a firefighter. The sheriff's office says Maher was driving through the fire zone with phony firefighter credentials and a stolen government license plate.
Firefighters are also trying to contain another fire that started Sunday in the foothills west of Colorado Springs that prompted evacuations of cabins, a Boy Scout camp and a recreation area.
