DENVER (AP) - A 25-year-old Aurora mother whose two children were killed in a house fire after she left them alone for more than seven hours has been sentenced to 27 years in prison.
The Denver Post reports Danielle Lynn Brockman was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to two counts of reckless child abuse resulting in death.
She is accused of leaving 3-year-old Timothy Joseph Ramirez and 15-month-old Alivia Ramirez alone in her Aurora home while she went to a party and a bar with friends in late October 2011.
Timothy was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital, and his little sister died a few days later. Both children died of asphyxia.
Investigators say the fire was likely caused by an unattended burner on the kitchen stove.
