DENVER (AP) - The Colorado Attorney General's office is reviewing a discounted tuition rate for illegal immigrant students at the Metropolitan State College of Denver.

Republican Attorney General John Suthers said Wednesday many state colleges and universities are interested in legal issues surrounding the matter. He says he can't say who requested the review and it's not yet known whether he will issue a public opinion.

Metro's decision last week prompted outcry from Republican legislators who defeated a bill earlier this year that sought to make college more affordable to illegal immigrants.

Metro's policy is expected to take effect this fall. Officials estimate as many as 300 students could qualify for the new tuition rate, which would be about $3,578 per semester. That's about half the amount currently for nonresident tuition.
