Aspen to restart efforts to tap geothermal energy

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - The city of Aspen is restarting efforts next week to drill a test well assessing the potential for geothermal energy more than 1,000 feet below the surface.

Aspen officials said Wednesday that they had reached a deal with a drilling company to continue work that started in of 2011. At that time, a contractor drilled to 1,080 feet, but did not reach water.

According to the Aspen Daily News, drillers will attempt to reach 1,500 feet below the ground and will stop if water is not found by that point.
