The artist Jeanne-Claude has died. She created the 2005 art installation in Central Park called "The Gates" with her husband, Christo, along with other eye-popping fabric installations around the world.

Her family says Jeanne-Claude died Wednesday night at a New York hospital from complications of a brain aneurysm.

In February 2005, Christo and Jeanne-Claude constructed more than 7,500 metal gates draped with orange fabric in Central Park. Officials estimated that the project brought in about 4 million visitors and generated $254 million.

Jeanne-Claude and Christo have also worked for years on plans to drape miles of the upper Arkansas River in Colorado, between Cotopaxi and Salida, with fabric. The couple's art work was displayed at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center in Pueblo last year. They attended a reception at the arts center, which also sold their works.
