Arrested teacher was recently hired

COLORADO SPRINGS - A Colorado Springs teacher arrested by detectives with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office on charges of sexual assault on a child had just recently been hired by the Harrison School District. Carmen Centennial, 39, is accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl on multiple occasions between December and March.

He was hired by the district in January to be an English Language Development teacher at Otero Elementary School. District spokesperson Christine Lyle says that the principal and superintendent have been working to notify parents individually of the arrest. They do not believe children at the school were harmed. Lt. Jeff Kramer said in a news release that there is no information that suggests there were other victims.

Centennial is being held on $10,000 bond at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on felony charges of Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust, Sexual Assault on a Child/Pattern of Abuse, and a misdemeanor charge of Sexual Assault.
