Arrested former sheriff has Arapahoe Co. rethinking building naming

LITTLETON, Colo. (AP) - Arapahoe County commissioners will consider a new policy prohibiting naming buildings, parks or streets after someone who's still alive following the incarceration of a sheriff in a jail named after him.
In a statement, Commission Rod Bockenfeld says the county owes it to their citizens to revisit past practices for naming county buildings following the arrest of Patrick J. Sullivan Jr. Nov. 29th.
Sullivan, the county's sheriff from 1983 to 2002, is being held on drug, attempting to influence a public servant and prostitute solicitation charges in the Patrick J. Sullivan Detention Center that was named in his honor.
County spokeswoman Haley McKean says there is no immediate move to rename the jail. She says such a move would follow a change in naming policy after the January study session.
