On Thursday, August 23 the Adult Sexual Assault Unit of the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of a case that was reported to the Austin, Texas Police Department but actually occurred at a hotel in Colorado Springs on July 7.
According to the victim, she was initially deployed by the American Red Cross from Texas to Fort Collins to assist families displaced by the wildfire. She was teamed with 71-year-old, Allen Crabtree from Maine whom she had met prior to deployment during an annual training session.
After working in Fort Collins, both were asked by the American Red Cross to come to Colorado Springs to assist families displaced by the Waldo Canyon Fire.
On July 7th the victim and Mr. Crabtree met a group of Red Cross workers at a restaurant for dinner and drinks. Following this, they went to an unknown bar for more drinks. The victim and Mr. Crabtree stayed at the bar while everyone else left for the evening.
Once back at the hotel, the victim stated that she believed she may have been drugged and was sexually assaulted by Mr. Crabtree.
Based on information revealed during an investigation by CSPD, a warrant was issued for Mr. Crabtree for a Class Four Felony of Sexual Assault. He was arrested on this charge in Maine.
Detectives do not know if anyone else may have been victimized.
