FOUNTAIN - An Army investigation lead to the discovery of two pipe bombs and possibly other explosives inside of a home in Fountain.
According to the Fountain Police Department their officers were called to the 500-block of Turf Trail Pl. just before 7 p.m. on Thursday to assist Fort Carson Criminal Investigation (CID) agents who had been searching a house as part of an ongoing investigation. The agents told officers they had discovered two pipe bombs in the garage of the home and possible explosive devices inside the house.
"It's crazy, especially knowing all the kids and everything around this area," said Adam Ivery, whose home is behind the house where the bombs were found.
The bomb squad was called to the scene, removed the pipe bombs and defused them. All the other materials found inside the house were taken by the CID agents and an Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit from Fort Carson.
"Just as long as they get it taken care of and everybody's safe, especially the kids in the neighborhood," Adam Ivery said. "I think it worries everybody around, especially that somebody would think to have that around kids and it's just a nice neighborhood."
A Fort Carson spokesperson said all information about the investigation would have to be released by CID Headquarters in Washington, DC. News 5 left multiple messages with CID Public Affairs but received no response as of Friday night.
