Armed fugitive caught hiding in Colorado Springs dentist's office

An armed fugitive wanted for multiple warrants was captured on Thursday night after hiding in a dentist's office and engaging in a stand-off with Colorado Springs Police.

Officers had been hunting for the man since yesterday after they say he had made threats against police. They say he lived in the area of Austin Bluff and Academy and apparently got wind of the manhunt around 7 p.m. He's accused of running from officers and trying to hide in the Comfort Dental office in the Academy Station Shopping Center.

"The young man came in just saying he had a tooth-ache and needed to be seen," described Anna Rein, who works at the dentist's office. "Probably 30-seconds after that the police came in and after they had gotten me out of the way, then we all went out the back way and waited it out at Three Margaritas until they apprehended him."

The office was quickly evacuated and surrounded by police who negotiated with the suspect over the phone. The man eventually surrendered, but police say he did injure himself trying to escape through the building's ceiling.

Officers said the quick thinking and calmness of the dentist's office staff potentially helped avoid a hostage situation.
