GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - An inmate who escaped from an Arizona prison and was caught after a shootout with police in Colorado has been sentenced to 48 years in prison for firing at an officer.

The Daily Sentinel in Grand Junction reports that Daniel Renwick was also sentenced Friday to another 12 years for firing at other officers Aug. 1 in Rifle, 180 miles west of Denver. The 37-year-old Renwick pleaded guilty in March to two counts of first-degree attempted murder.

Officer William Van Teylingen said Renwick fired several bullets at his car. The officer rammed Renwick's SUV before the fugitive surrendered.

Renwick is one of three convicts who escaped in July from a prison in Kingman, Ariz. He was serving a sentence for second-degree murder. The other fugitives and a female accomplice were captured elsewhere.
