The Arc of the Pikes Peak Region announced the appointment of their new executive director. A statement released Thursday evening says Wilfred Romero will begin his new job as the leader of the non-profit organization on Monday.
Romero most recently worked for defense contractor Booz/Allen/Hamilton where he provided guidance and instruction to the leadership team. Romero also has experience with the Department of Health and Human Services, the Boys and Girls Club of Cheyenne, Wyoming and the Head Start programs in Cheyenne and in Southern Colorado.
The Arc's acting board president, Marsha Unruh said in a statement, "The Board engaged in a rigorous selection process, which led to our decision to hire Mr. Romero based on his management experience and his desire to lead the organization forward with integrity, transparency and dedication to The Arc PPR's mission."
Ms. Unruh also thanked interim executive director Christina Butero for her service during the hiring process. Butero will resume her position as director of public relations and development.
In the statement, Romero says, "I am eager to roll up my sleeves and help The Arc PPR begin a new chapter in its long history of serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and their families. My desire is to make sure that individuals and families are receiving the best service possible."
The announcement comes one day after two or three Arc employees were fired.
