DENVER (AP) - Colorado Republican gubernatorial candidate Dan Maes says he's standing by his claims about his work in law enforcement and urging his supporters to keep up the fight.
Maes made the comments on his Facebook page on Thursday, a day after media reports raised questions about his claims that he worked undercover while working as a police officer in Kansas. The reports prompted two Republicans - former Sen. Hank Brown and former state Senate president John Andrews - to withdraw their support. Andrews says he'll cast a write-in vote for former Lt. Gov. Jane Norton instead.
State GOP chairman Dick Wadhams says Maes would have to withdraw by Friday afternoon to list a different Republican candidate on November's ballot.
