Organizers of an attempt to ban abortions in Colorado through a ballot measure are planning to announce whether they collected enough signatures to send the proposal to voters.

Volunteers with Personhood Colorado need 76,047 by Friday to get their proposal on the state ballot. It would add fertilized embryos to the definition of humans in the state Constitution.

A similar measure on the Colorado ballot failed in 2008.

Supporters plan to rally at the Knight's of Columbus Hall in Denver Friday to announce how many signatures they've gathered.
