The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region is housing upwards of 250 animals ranging from dogs and cats to birds, turtles and bunnies as pet owners look for safe shelter during evacuations from the Waldo Canyon Fire.

Volunteers are on duty 24 hours a day at the emergency shelter at the Freedom Financial Expo Center. Along with feeding and walking the animals, HSPPR veterinarians are also tending to animals with special medical needs and administering appropriate vaccinations.
