Angler missing in Arkansas River after saving dog

CANON CITY, Colo. (AP) - Authorities say a Canon City man has disappeared after wading into the Arkansas River to rescue his dog.

The Fremont County Sheriff's Department says the 42-year-old man was fishing with a friend near Florence in southern Colorado on Monday when he vanished.

His name hasn't been released.

The Canon City Daily Record reports the man was able to get his dog back to the river bank.

Sheriff's deputies used a helicopter to search for the man Monday but had no success.

Authorities planned to resume the hunt Tuesday.
