Starting Tuesday, Colorado Springs will gain a new relative. Ancient Olympia will become the Springs' seventh Sister City.
Ancient Olympia was the birthplace of the Olympic Games more than 2,700 years ago and Colorado Springs houses the U.S. Olympic Committee, plus many of its governing bodies. In addition to the Olympic connection, both cities are united in academics and tourism.
A ceremony marking the agreement signing between mayors Steve Bach and Aristideis Panagiotopoulos will occur at 1:15pm. A reception will follow at 6pm.
The other six Sister Cities are: Bankstown, Australia; Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan; Fujiyoshida, Japan; Kaohsiung, Taiwan; Nuevo Casas Grandes, Mexico; and Smolensk, Russia.
