Ambulances take 5 kids to hospitals following bus accident

Five children aboard a Crowley County school bus have been taken to hospitals by ambulance, following a Thursday morning crash with a truck. The children were transported to Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center in La Junta and Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo. Their conditions are "not life threatening," according to Trooper Nate Reid of the Colorado State Patrol.

Capt. Leah Fox of the Crowley County Sheriff's Office, said the injuries "appear to be minor."

The school bus was carrying 32 kids at the time of the crash, ranging from elementary through high school students. Those injured ranged in age from 6 to 17.

Capt. Fox says a pickup rear-ended the school bus.  The truck was driven by 18 year-old Logan Benbow of Olney Springs.  He was not injured.

The exact location of the crash, according to Trooper Reid, is Lanes F and 11 1/2 in Crowley County, near Olney Springs.  Investigating officers said the bus had just stopped to pick up two children and had its red flashing lights and stop sign activated.  Sun glare may have contributed to the crash.
