Alabama, Mississippi pick up after deadly storms

FEMA takes a look today at the damage from the weekend tornado and storms that lashed four southern states.

Teams from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will concentrate on Mississippi, where 10 of the 12 fatalities happened. The inspection is the first step toward a possible presidential disaster declaration.

Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour says the tornado that tore through 16 counties in his state on Saturday was "enormous." The National Weather Service says it had winds of 160 miles an hour, and left a path of destruction at least 50 miles long.

Hundreds of homes were damaged in the four states: Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Alabama. Two storm-related deaths were also reported in Alabama.

Survivors are spending another day cleaning up.
