U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - Members of the Air Force football team will be participated in a community service project next week. The team will be helping with Waldo Canyon Fire burn scar clean up on Tuesday, May 20, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Final numbers are still be worked, but more than 50 players are set to help.
Post fire flooding poses a major threat of damage to homes and lives in the Waldo Canyon Fire burn scar. Many sites in Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs and Ute Pass, including US Highway 24, are highly vulnerable to flood impacts. The project work will include installing log erosion barriers on hill-slopes and/or re-seeding recently constructed sediment retention basins. These treatments are crucial to reduce future flood damage.
