Air Force Baseball Falls to Fresno State, 6-4, at MW Championship

FRESNO, Calif. - Sixth-seed Air Force baseball dropped a 6-4 ballgame to fourth-seeded Fresno State and was eliminated from the 2013 Mountain West Baseball Championship Thursday afternoon at Beiden Field. The Falcons wrap up 2013 with a 15-39 record.


Despite 13 hits and six walks drawn, the Falcons stranded 17 baserunners, including the bases loaded twice and two runners in four other innings.


Fresno State (22-32) jumped out to a 3-0 lead with two runs in the first and one in the third. After trading runs in the fourth, the Falcons scored a run in the sixth to make it a 4-2 game. A run in the top of the seventh made it a one-run game before the Bulldogs scored two in the bottom of the inning. The Falcons added a fourth run in the eighth.


Four Falcons had two hits to lead the way. Junior first baseman Seth Kline, freshman designated hitter Peter Johnson, senior second baseman Matthew Roberts and junior centerfielder David Baska had two hits each for the Falcons. Senior Alex Bast and freshman Zach Reks added doubles.


Starting pitcher Cameron White (3-11) took the loss, striking out two in 6.1 innings pitched. White finished the season with 107.2 innings pitched, ranking second all-time at Air Force. Senior Ben Bertelson and Alex Baker closed out the game in relief. Baker pitched in his 85th career game, ranking third all-time at AFA.


Fresno State had 14 hits in the game. Centerfielder Aaron Judge led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored. Tim Borst (3-2) pitched seven innings to pick up the win. Tyler Stirewalt picked up his first save of the season.


Air Force baseball graduates 10 seniors off the 2013 team. Its 15 wins this season were the 7th-most Div. I wins in program history.
