Air Force and Bentley skate to 2-2 overtime tie

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - Kyle De Laurell and John Kruse each scored as Air Force and Bentley skated to a 2-2 overtime tie in an Atlantic Hockey Association game Friday at a sold out Cadet Ice Arena.
De Laurell's team-leading 14th of the season tied the game at 2-2 early in the third period and Bentley goalie Brenden Komm made 40 saves, including 14 in overtime as each team earned a point tonight in front of 3,098 fans at the Academy.
Air Force, 10-6-4 overall and 8-3-3 in the AHA, opened the scoring at the 11:40 mark. Adam McKenzie made a long outlet pass to John Kruse at the blue line. Kruse skated down the right wing and whistled a wrister high glove side for his seventh of the season. Just 21 seconds later, Bentley answered. Alex Grieve skated around the net and took a shot that went off of the skate off De Laurell and into the net.
Early in the second period, Air Force turned the puck over at its own blue line and Brett Gensler skated in uncontested on goaltender Stephen Caple. Gensler made a move to his left and then came back to his right to tuck it inside the post for his sixth of the season at the 6:11 mark.
Air Force came out with a ton of energy to start the third period and outshot Bentley, 13-3, in the first nine minutes of the period. After freshman Scott Holm drew a penalty, the Falcons capitalized. Chad Demers won the faceoff and Tim Kirby fed Cole Gunner on the half-boards. Gunner gave it to De Laurell who took a shot from the left circle to tie the game at 2-2 at 5:40 of the first period.
Bentley started overtime with 34 seconds of a power play but the Falcons killed it without a shot. After a tripping penalty on De Laurell, Bentley was back on the power play but it was Air Force who had the two best chances to score with George Michalke and Tony Thomas, short-handed, right in front. After killing the penalty, Air Force went on the power play in the final 1:41 but were unable to score.
AFA outshot Bentley, 42-22, in the game. Komm made 40 saves for Bentley while Caple made 20 for Air Force. AFA was 1-for-8 on the power play while Bentley was 0-for-5.
Air Force and Bentley conclude the two-game league series on Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Cadet Ice Arena.
