Air Force Academy contractor arrested for arson

US AIR FORCE ACADEMY - A female contractor has been arrested on arson charges in connection with a series of small fires at an Air Force Academy dormitory. Michelle Smith, 38, was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center Wednesday on four counts of arson.

Smith was taken into custody by agents with the US Air Force Office of Special Investigations. As many 2000 cadets were evacuated from Sijan Hall Tuesday after a pair of small fires were qucikly discovered and extinguished.

It was the second time in a week that fires were put out in the building. As a result of the ongoing investigation, a series of on base training exercises that were scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday were cancelled.

Smith is being held on $25,000 bond.
